Kinja'd!!!

My journey towards rejoining civilization ( !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and 3 years after everyone has moved on to something better...) continues. An SSD is coming, which will be backed by a large disk-platter style HD, 2TB or more if I can afford it.

Sandy Bridge i5s are going real cheap right now, so I’ll be getting one of those. A pair of 8GB DDR3 DIMMS will join it. I’ll be looking for a ~$200-300 Video card to finish the upgrade in late August/Early sept. FINALLY!

You can get windows 10 for free right now if you hurry up and upgrade your windows 7/8.

As for a video card, 750ti is still a great bang for your buck and would give you enough leftover cash for a good monitor or other upgrades.

So 16GB of RAM? Good call.

I’d recommend a GTX970, personally. You can get one for around $300-350.

I have a year to upgrade to 10. I’ll try the preview before they close the gates on the winsider program and see what I’m in for before I totally switch over.

Not going to be getting a monitor as my TV does that.

I already have a 750ti, and it’s definitely good for what it is, but there’s only a few games you can play on it at 1080p/60fps. Hearthstone runs flawlessly but everything beyond that requires serious compromise to work. I also like to do GPU rendering with Blender Cycles and there more than anywhere else do the limitations of a low end video card expose themselves. I need more power!

You’re in for a treat once you finally go SSD for OS disk, it’s sooooo good. I also bought an i5, 8GB ram recently, and just a few weeks ago got a way too cheap second hand GTX 770. Untill the i5 upgrade i’ve been running DDR2 ram with a way aged Core2Quad, gosh that upgrade was something...
